Fortune Cookie

I couldn’t think of anything to write today, so I consulted the official NaPoWriMo site to see what the daily writing prompt had to offer. The challenge is to write a poem inspired by a fortune from a fortune cookie. Isn’t is fortunate that my husband ordered Chinese food tonight? Yes indeed. The first line of this tritina was my fortune.

Change your thoughts and you change your destiny,
but my thoughts are not mine alone
Dark voices whisper, luring me from my path
I stumble down the dangerous path,
wandering further from my destiny,
terrified, trembling, and alone
The whispers fade and I’m alone
with my thoughts upon a different path
At last, I find my destiny
My destiny is to walk this path alone
